Discover Isaan is a travel guide dedicated entirely to northeastern Thailand, also known as the Isan region. It is a more authentic and lesser-known part of Thailand. Our mission is to help comfort-seeking travellers from abroad discover this unique and more local part of Thailand.
For many, Thailand is known for its exciting and bustling Bangkok or the beautiful but crowded beaches of the south. Yet, tucked away in the northeast lies Isan, a hidden gem where ancient Khmer temples stand proud, vibrant local festivals light up the calendar and the sincere hospitality of the local people remains untouched by mass tourism.
The Story Behind Discover Isaan
Our platform is born out of a unique partnership and a shared love for this beautiful corner of the world. Discover Isaan is run by me, a European expat and my lovely Thai wife, who was born and raised in Isaan. Together, we live a comfortable life in Isan, exploring the region and enjoying the incredible Northeastern cuisine.
While my wife keeps her roots firmly planted in the local community, I divide my time equally between Europe and our home in her welcoming Thai hometown. Together, we have spent years regularly travelling across the vast landscapes of Isan, seeking out the most scenic routes, hidden cultural treasures and comfortable places to stay. By combining European expectations of comfort and reliability with authentic, lifelong local Thai expertise, we are uniquely equipped to show you the very best this region has to offer.
